Middle Grade Math
CAN Work in Action
The Middle Grade Math CAN is working to increase the Mean Scale Score of eighth grade math students within the RMC2C Partnership, intentionally targeting eighth grade math students who qualify for free and reduced lunch in the short-term. They are also currently in the process of updating their SMART Target, as their current target is time-bound to 2020. Read more below about the work underway by the Middle Grade Math CAN.
Area Working to Impact
Outcome: Eighth Grade Math
Global Target: By 2025, the mean scale score of eighth grade math students in the RMC2C Partnership will be 750 (known as meeting expectations).
Core Indicator: Mean Scale Scores
Measurement Tool: CMAS Math Grade 8 Exam
For the RMC2C Partnership, the average score for 8th grade math was 728 for 2019. This means that students, on average, are performing at a level 3 (Approaching Expectations).
That is roughly 3,000 students, or 58%, who are NOT meeting expectations in 8th grade math.
If nothing changes, the average young person in the RMC2C Partnership will not have the skills they need to successfully continue along their Cradle to Career journey.
SMART Target: By 2020, the mean scale score of eighth grade math students in the RMC2C Partnership who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch will be 723.
Target Population: 8th Grade Students who Qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch
